30 Things To Do Before I'm 30

Today is my birthday and as I creep closer and closer to 30 I feel like I should have done a bit more by now. I know a lot of that silly pressure to be doing certain things and living up to certain expectations comes from my mental health but I do also feel like I need more goals. And so, I have made a list of 30 things I want to do before I reach the big 3-0! I've promised myself that this is just something to encourage me to try new things and do a little more, not to set myself unreachable targets that I can use as an excuse to beat myself up if I don't achieve them. Some of them are sensible, some are silly, some are personal. If any of you can help along the way, please feel free especially with the travel and savings ones haha! (I started writing this list a few months ago so I can already tick some off...that's definitely not cheating, right?!)

1. Visit somewhere outside of Europe.

2. Get a tattoo. *

3. Make an item of clothing from scratch.

4. Visit my family in Canada.

5. Re-learn French to a decent conversational level.

6. Work on a plus size fashion campaign with a brand.

7. Knit or crochet a blanket (a proper sized one, not a baby blanket!)

8. Complete a cross stitch not from a kit.

9. Go back to university. *

10. Dye my hair a different colour. *

11. Read at least 10 books a year starting on 2nd April 2014.

12. Clear all my debts.

13. Have some savings that don't get dipped into whenever we fancy a takeaway we can't afford!

14. Complete three more beauty related courses.

15. Have an article published in a magazine.

16. Get my BMI into the range where we can get fertility help.

17. Go on holiday with my mum.

18. Have a different pair of glasses for every day of the week.

19. Do some plus size modelling.

20. Move closer to my mum.

21. Learn to sew.

22. Go on holiday with a group of friends.

23. Go for lunch alone without having a panic attack. *

24. Up-cycle a piece of furniture.

25. Hold two successful swaps a year.

26. Buy the chest of drawers that matches our bedroom furniture.

27. Stand up for myself at least once.

28. Make a new friend. *
29. Stick to some sort of regular exercise routine. Or just be able to walk a mile without dying.

30. Have at least 10 days where I don't say one negative thing to myself.

Love,
A Slightly Older Mrs D x

ps. I'm also making this a page so you can keep track of my progress if you were that way inclined!

  2. I love #18 and CONGRATS on #23, seriously. I don't think I would be able to do that. Good luck with your goals!

  4. Happy Birthday!!
Gosh...I so like this post on making a list of things you wanna do. Did something similar last year for myself, but haven't gotten all that far yet (apart from the fact that I'm above thirty anyway now). Sooo....crucial question: how young have you just turned - ... how much time have you got to complete the list? It's anyway all about the challenge. You have to reach for the stars to get closer to heaven, I guess... :-)

  5. Awww this is so sweet, I love it! Happy Birthday too x I am sooooo far away from where I thought I'd be at this age (I'll be 34 next month), but due to ill health for the past 12 years, it's been completely outwith my control and my life has stood still from 22 onwards. Most of my hobbies and any kind of social life have gone, as I'm just not able for them. I can't work and as for a relationship, well it's not really going to happen when I don't leave the house. It's damn hard to deal with...you do those stupid 'where will I be in 5/10 years time' things at school and have such high hopes and for none of that to materialise, it's kinda heartbreaking. I was joking last night that I'll probably be a first time Mum at 60, but as the years pass, it's becoming less of a joke and more of a reality!! It's very probable I'll never get married or have kids and certainly will have to live long to see grandchildren. Weird things like having a silver/golden wedding anniversary seem more remote as time goes on. Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent kinda. I think you've picked realistic goals and fun ones that should be achievable, but like you say, don't beat yourself up if you don't. Remember 'old-lady-me' when it's feeling hopeless ; )

  6. Good luck with it all! I should've done a 40 before 40 but I only have 5 days to do it in so I've left it a bit late. ;) Happy buffday! x x x
